# What are plan goals?

How plan goals turn individual plans into mini crowdfunding campaigns

**A plan goal turns a single plan into a small crowdfunding campaign.** You set a number of members you want to reach, and readers can see how close you are. That gives new members a concrete reason to join now.

For example: “The Holiday Plan – when we reach 100 members, we’ll publish a special holiday video on our YouTube channel.”

## How do I set a plan goal?

1. Go to [Plans](https://steady.page/backend/publications/default/plans) and create a new plan – or open an existing plan’s details and click **Edit**.

2. In the Settings section, turn on **Set a goal for this plan**.

3. Enter the minimum number of active members you’d like this plan to reach.

4. Click **Save** – or **Publish** for a new plan.

The plan then shows your progress, for example “42 of 100 reached”. Active members and members in their free trial count towards the goal. Guests and external members don’t. Members who have cancelled stop counting straight away, even while their paid period is still running.

> **Note:** A plan doesn’t disappear once the goal is reached. If your Holiday Plan reaches 100 members, more people can still join it.
